Toronto International Prayer Conference for All Nations

IPCAN 2009 - TorontoSending missionaries into the field is not the only solution for world evangelization. Prayer as a means of empowerment to reach the lost is the task of the local church and most practically involves the church in mission participation. The Great Light Church in Toronto, Canada, is a mission-centered church, which supports many missionaries, and focuses on the development of a supporting project to North Korea. This church is a model church that is involved in world mission in efficient ways. About 170 delegates attended the recent seminars, and 700 participants who gathered at night, prayed fervently for 3-days from October 20-23, 2009. Prayer for Unreached People was the focus of this prayer conference. More prayer conferences in metropolitan areas have been planned for next year. Two designated sites are: (1) IPCAN Tacoma, Washington, April 12-15, 2010, and (2) IPCAN Orange County, California, Oct 25-27, 2010.

Case Study - Promise Generation
A “FALL FESTIVAL” Report and 4-14 Outreach Update

Promise Generation - Fall Festival 2009At 7 AM, light, drizzly rain began to fall on Flushing as volunteers gathered at Promise Church to pray and set up for the Fall Festival. This was the first community outreach coordinated by Promise Generation - a collaborative organization built to reach 4-14 year old kids and youth in the local New York City area with the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ - led by leaders from Aposento Alto, Grace Church and Promise Ministries. Despite forecasts of heavy rain a few weeks before, the rain was divinely held back and by the end of the Festival at 7 PM, over 1000 children and youth had come to the event. Counting their parents and guardians, over 2,000 people enjoyed the various rides, stations, free candy, performances and the loving warmth of Fall Festival volunteers throughout the day.

Promise Generation - Fall Festival 2009The Fall Festival touched many lives in different ways. Albert Ghim, one of our shuttle bus volunteers, approached one mother sitting at a bus stop in Fresh Meadows with her child, and informed her about the Fall Festival. The mother’s countenance lit up, excited to be able to take her child to a fun activity, and hopping on the Festival shuttle began calling friends on the phone to inform them of the Festival. Later she even signed her child up for the Powerhouse children’s program that begins Saturday, November 7th. Throughout the Festival, people who had been looking for a church to attend found out about the various worship services held at our church. Others received prayer from caring volunteers and pastors. Victoria Labban, a 9 year old from Grace Church, ministered to the gathered crowd during the live performance time - clearly singing out the message of God’s love with the lyrics of “At the Cross”. Following the Festival, one new family who came to church the Sunday after Fall Festival and shared with tears how blessed they were by the worship service and all that they had experienced that weekend. The Festival truly was an important connection point where individuals and families in the community felt God’s love for them in a tangible way.

What’s next?

The first Promise Generation outreach is beginning with “Powerhouse” – a weekly, dynamic children’s program for kids ages 6-11 years old that will be held on Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM beginning on Nov. 7, directed and led by Sorah Choi. Volunteers are greatly needed to help with this program both during the weekday for preparation and on Saturdays during the program. We need caring volunteers to visit children during the week, help make stage and room decorations, lead groups, prepare lunch, setup and cleanup, ride on buses to pickup and drop off children, and much more. All volunteers are required to go through an initial volunteer information training session. May the face and heart of this generation’s NYC children and youth be changed as they come to realize their identity in Christ!
